South Hams District Council supporting the Great British Spring Clean
Published: 13 March 2026
We’re encouraging everyone in the South Hams to help the environment and take part in Keep Britain Tidy’s 11th Great British Spring Clean.
South Hams District Council has offered help to a handful of litter picks taking place across the district during Britain’s favourite environmental charity’s clean-up campaign. The council is providing bags and litter picking equipment for picks, and council staff are joining and arranging litter pick events.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Great British Spring Clean campaign, which runs from 13 to 29 March, is calling residents across the UK to show they love where they live by taking part in the mass action litter pick.
Cllr Julian Brazil, Lead Member for Waste and Recycling, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support these litter pick events across the area. The Great British Spring Clean is a great way to get people thinking about their local public spaces and environment, connect with other people across their communities while playing their part in protecting the environment on their doorstep.”
The Great British Spring Clean brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep.
Keep Britain Tidy reports that last year:
95% of participants agreed that they felt they had made a difference to their local area.
88% of people who took part in the Great British Spring Clean agreed they feel part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter
Among the litter pick events taking place in the South Hams for the Great British Spring Clean are:
22 March – Bridgetown Alive litter pick in Bridgetown – contact Bridgetown Alive to find out more
24 March – U3A Litter Picking Group, meeting at the Watermark in Ivybridge, at 10 a.m.
26 March – Nature Helpers at Stoke Gabriel Primary School, a mixture of pupils and adults
Other events are due to take place at Slapton, Malborough and Yealmpton, with dates and times to be confirmed. The council has also assisted with a litter pick in Diptford for the Spring Clean.
